China’s success in Space technology, continues China’s space breeding satellite Shijan- 8 has returned from its 15-day flight in space. It landed in Sichuan Province in South West China, earlier today. China’s experiment on planting space-bred seeds has been a great success and over the past four years, crops developed with space-bred seeds have contributed more than 62.5 million dollars to the country’s GDP. The concept behind this new research program is, when seeds are exposed to cosmic radiations in zero gravity they mutate and crops gown from these seeds produce quality grains and at the same time give high yield when compared to normal crops. Shijan-8 carried 215 kilograms of seeds of cotton, grains, vegetables and fruits. Only U.S and Russia have the capabilities to breed seeds in space, other than China. To read more click here
