Can't We All Just Get Along? - Muslims Slam Pope Can you really demand that the pope retract statements? I mean, he's the pope and being the pope gives you creative license to say whatever you want to. Doesn't it? Apparently not. According to RawStory.com, there were resolutions passed unanimously where the National Assembly and the Senate said the pope hurt inter-faith harmony and the feelings of Muslims all over the world and violated the United Nations charter on human rights by his recent remarks in Germany regarding the Prophet of Islam and the Koranic philosophy of jihad. It demanded that the pope withdraw his remarks immediately. Mosques around the region demanded very similar things . No violence was reported in response to the remarks, but the pope was accused of triggering a second wave of "anti-Islam" activity. The pope's remarks included quotes from ancient scholars, stating that God would not agree with certain points of Islam, and indicating a falsehood toward the religion and toward the society in which Muslims live. "Can't get along" and when in history has that ever really been the case... there are countless numbers of people on this planet whose sole purpose in life is to create problems, often when none exist... we humans are a sad lot in the area of "getting along!"
He may have worded it differently, but he didn't say anything that I haven't been saying all along...and I'm not even Christian. (Pagan)
It hasn't been in the too distant past that you would have been maimed or killed for saying anything against Christanity as well.
Maybe they will all grow up and get along someday, but I doupt if it will be in my lifetime. Think about it, we're only 50 years past segragated toilets here in the good ol' U S of A.
The Pope's unsupportable, sweeping generalizations regarding the entire Muslim faith were supremely un-Christian. What would Jesus do? Certainly not utter mean-spirited, divisive accusations that create only ill-will and further misunderstanding between people, the vast majority of whom share common aspirations for peace and harmony; no matter the particular path they have chosen to strive for that ideal. How is Christian love and tolerance brought about by showing profound lack of respect for the common humanity and dignity shown by the lives and conduct of nearly a billion people?
The Pope needs to do more than apologize. He needs to represent the faith that he professes.
