Camera sniffs out parking scofflaws It is part of an effort to collect $36 million in fines from an army of offenders plaguing the streets of Philadelphia. The city has long suffered from illegal parking, unregistered cars, and more violent forms of car abuse such as hit-and-run. The Parking Authority and Traffic Court announced the new crackdown at a press conference today. Judge Bernice DeAngelis notes the system can scan 600 license plates in an hour, or 300,000 in a year. It is hard to say how long it would take to round up all 46,000 scofflaws. Piece shown on 6abc (no coverage of story just yet). CBS3 has a piece on a system that looks the same here.
