Bush asks for backing on anti-terror bills

President Bush visited Congress today where he met in a closed session with House GOP members on legislation to give his administration and government more power to spy on, imprison and interrogate terrorism suspects. This legislation would narrowly define how the US interprets the Geneva Convention, and allow for tougher interrogations and protect US personnel from being prosecuted for war crimes.

The plan is met by resistance by former member of Bush’s administration, Former Secretary of State Colin Powell. This is seen as the latest sign of division over White House security.

Powell stated Congress must not pass such legislation.
