Booming Indian Medical Tourism Industry slammed by US workers

IN what seems to be another sequel to the anti-outsourcing tirade, United Steelworkers (USW) - America's largest industrial union with more than 850,000 members - castigated the employer policy of sending employees to India or other lower-cost countries for expensive medical procedures.

According to the USW President Leo Gerard, "no US citizen should be exposed to the risks involved in travelling internationally for health care services." However, Mr. Gerard conveniently omitted to mention the fact that the same medical procedures in India cost a tenth in India of what it costs in the US. And what about the 45 million plus uninsured Americans, who are exploring the option of inexpensive foreign healthcare due to the broken system in US.

Some food for thought, Mr. Gerard!
