Bird flu Pandemic coming, warns UN According to David Nabarro, Senior United Nations System Coordinator for Avian and Human Influenza, a human influenza pandemic is a possibility in the wake of recent outbreak of bird flu. The world will be losing a whopping US$2 trillion, or 4.8 percent of the world's gross domestic product and 70 million people in the eventuality of such a pandemic. The world has just witnessed a trailer of what is in store in the form of a full blown avian-influenza pandemic. The UN needs to play a more decisive role in arresting the spread of a deadly disease like bird flu.
