The Art of Peaceful Religion

A couple decades ago an artist, and I use the term loosely, dropped a crucifix in a cup of urine and called it a name I find so offensive I refuse to even type it. My reaction was not to issue a statement calling for his murder, to bomb artist village, or anything along that line. Nobody felt so threatened that they felt compelled to remove his art from their museums or other display areas.
Contrast that with how Muslim desires are acquiesced to. A fine example is the German opera pulling performances...before they are objected to! The very real...and reasonable...fear is that performance of the plays will result in more threats, rioting and potentially worse acts of violence. This is based on recent experience and going further back, as is referenced in the article, even as far back as 1989 Salman Rushdie was facing death threats for this sort of material.
To be honest, i would find the play offensive as well. I have a very simple answer. I won't go to see it. Nobody needs to die, nobody needs to be threatened, I don't need to do any recreational rioting to get my point across...if those of us who are offended by it simply do not go then there is no problem for us.
At some point we, the world society, need to make a stand and let them know this sort of behavior will not get them their way, that throwing fits like little kids will not force the world to bow to the Muslim sects that want to impose their will, and get back to doing the things we have every right to do, whether they offend others or not. Maybe then we can get to important stuff like stopping the murders in Dufar.
