All Safe in Cazenovia School Shooting We are thankful this time around that no one has been killed, although I am wondering just when it was that ordinary high schools apparently turned into such snake pits? I have a theory that we are too much age-segregated; teenagers especially are thrown together too much with other teen-agers, and hardly have a chance to associate with adults, and to get along outside the hot-house of school. If you don’t fit in, and despise your fellow students, and don’t see an end to a hateful high-school existence… what kind of hope is there for you? I wonder also, if having a job actually might be an escape valve for some students, if it is one which gives some real-world responsibility, lets them associate with adults other than their parents and teachers, and teaches a useful skill, even if it is only running a cash register. My daughter worked in a department store at the age of 16 or 17, and enjoyed the experience tremendously… especially as she looked somewhat older than her age, and consequently was treated rather more as an adult, both by management and customers. Additional information on this story here, including a report that the accused shooter was a odd-ball loner with few friends “Sgt Mom” is a freelance writer and retired Air Force NCO who blogs at "www.sgtstryker.com", and lives in San Antonio with two dogs, five cats, and a daughter who is studying to become a veterinarian, and this be able to help with the upkeep.
