Aljazeerah: Detainee Legislation Indicates Decay of U.S. Democracy "US Congress Legalizes Torture and Indefinite Detention" They follow up with descriptive language and "details" such as: calling the military trials "kangaroo courts" and they summarize the event this way: "For the first time in American history, Congress and the White House have agreed to set aside the provisions of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights and formally adopt methods traditionally identified with police states." They go on to say that: "This bill is the outcome of a protracted process of decay of American democracy, which has accompanied the immense growth in social inequality and reached a turning point in the stolen election of 2000." Well enough of that, you get the point; Aljazeerah is taking it's talking points straight from the American Far Left likes of Al Franken's "Air America" and everything that Michael Moore has ever said. Speaking of the Far Left, Arianna Huffington, in her blog called the "Huffington Post" published an article today written by Bob Geiger, an award winning member of the Democratic Underground. Mr. Geiger's headline: "Most Democrats Voting For Bush Torture Bill Silent About It" While Geiger's headline is scandalous because it perpetuates the lie about torture, it is a poor second place finisher to Aljazeerah's. The article is linked below but is there any doubt about what it says or implies? The real story behind the Detainee Legislation is not nearly as shocking as Aljazeerah or Arianna would like to have you think. Its a simple matter of a President who is not only disliked but hated by his opposition, trying to do his Constitutional duty to protect the citizens of his country. That the hatred of him is challenging his ability to do his job (i.e., protect ALL the citizens, even the ones who hate him), is a cartoonish scenario that plays best in a free country -- a country where everyone is encouraged to speak their mind and even movie actors wield political influence.
