9/11 was an inside job So sayeth the 9/11 Scholars for Truth, a consortium of 75 college professors and scientists who believe the co-ordinated attacks on September 11th, 2001, were orchestrated by the White House as an excuse to invade oil rich Arab nations. As you read this, bear in mind that these acadamians are shaping the minds of todays university students, your children, as they transition into adulthood. Professor Steven Jones, of Brigham Young University, seems to have emerged as the most outspoken of the group, so for the length of this article, we'll designate Professor Jones as Spokesman Illuminati for the Scholars. A key point of evidence, according to Professor Jones, that lends credence to the conspiracy theory, is that jet fuel does not burn hot enough to melt steel. Did I mention that Professor Jones teaches physics? Jet fuel, absolutely, does not burn hot enough to melt steel. The melting point of structural steel is 2750 degrees. Jet fuel burns, depending on circumstance, between 800 and 1500 degrees. The heated air above a flame gets even hotter than the flame itself, and it has been estimated that air pockets during the fire in the World Trade Center reached temperatures over 1800 degrees. Still not enough to melt steel. Structural steel does not have to melt in order to collapse. It only has to weaken, and surprisingly little. Now think back, to news reports or photographs of any major fire that you've seen, then look at the pictures of the aftermath. Were any steel beams or columns twisted, buckled, or bent? Of course they were, it happens all the time, every day, everywhere. At 1100 degrees, steel loses 50% of its strength. At that point, it's supporting twice the load it was designed to, and has already started to bow. At 1500 degrees, steel loses 90% of its strength, and any load it was carrying, is gone. By then, those massive looking looking cross beams and steel columns have all the structural integrity of a twig, and it got that hot inside the WTC. I do have to agree though, with Jonesy and his pals, that burning jet fuel did not bring the twin towers down. The amount of fuel carried by the planes would have burned out in about 10 minutes, and the buildings were still standing for that length of time. The jet fuel was actually an ignition source for everything else that was in the building, and that fire raged until the collapse. Point number 2 from the Scholars: Horizontal puffs of smoke seen during the collapse are evidence of controlled explosions that were used to bring the towers down. Let's just disregard for a moment the amount of explosive material that would take. We're not talking about a few satchel charges hidden in a closet here and there. In 1991, someone did try to take down the WTC with a bomb, remember? And not just 'a' bomb, but an entire truckload of explosives, which took out a few chunks of the building's basement parking garage, and not much else. So the idea of someone planting enough bombs and wireing, un-noticed by the way, to cause a controlled demolition, is nothing short of ludicrous. A nuke, maybe, but no radiation was found. Anyhow, those puffs of smoke... Steve? Are you still with me Steve? It's called pancaking. That's the way the floors came down, one on top of the other. Each collapsing floor added more weight to the effect, eventually enough weight to pulverize concrete. Want a scientific demonstration? Even with our meager resources, I think we can handle that. Find yourself a little pile of dust, nice fine powdery stuff, and stamp your foot on it. The mysterious puffs of smoke? They go sideways. Not exactly pancaking, but foot stomping. Basically the same thing. I know, I know, that explanation is rudimentary at best, and I'm the first to admit that my little brain hasn't absorbed even a fraction of the knowledge that the Scholars for Truth have obtained from books, but I have blown things up when I was with the Army Corps of Engineers, and I have seen structural steel and concrete fail during many years in the construction industry. Those towers weren't blown up the way Stevie and the boys think, and the only conspirators involved were 19 idiots in airplanes who believe Allah told them to kill Americans. Any questions?
