7-time Tour de France Winner On The Run.. Literally

Lance Armstrong, with his record 7 consecutive Tour de France titles, is preparing himself for a new challenge. The New York City marathon that will be held on November 5th. Armstrong feels that he can finish within an hour of the winner, but won't shy away from saying that training for the grueling 26.2 mile event has not been easy.

"It's been harder physically than I expected. Just the pounding. The aches and pains associated with running. My hips, joints. Running is an impact sport, certainly as opposed to cycling," Armstrong says.

Lance told reporters that he's been doing 6 1/2 minute miles during training, so he feels he will be alright. Up to this point his longest run has been 13 miles, so he jokingly said that he should probably do a longer run soon.

Unfortunately for Armstrong, who has been accused over and over again about performance enhancing drugs, being interviewed for the marathon could not possible come without questions about his past. A former team member, Frankie Andreu, reported that they had used an endurance-booster before the 1999 Tour de France, Armstrong's 1st of 7 victories. Andreu also stated that no one has ever seen Lance use an illegal substance, and that Armstrong has never tested positive. When this was brought up to Lance, he stayed as class act as usually, simply stating that whenever doping allegations come up with any athlete he gets lumped in.
