$3B from Branson to combat Global Warming The announcement was made at the Clinton Global Initiative, the second annual meeting of influential business, non-profit and political leaders around the world, hosted by former US President Bill Clinton. Global warming is only one focus of the meetings, but the subject has received increasing attention: In 2005, they ended the conference with $2.5 billion in pledges; By Thursday of this year’s conference, they had received commitments of over $5.7 billion. There is definite irony here in taking profits from an industry that contributes to global warming, and using those profits to combat the problem. Regardless, real investment in the issue is needed. This is a small but significant step in acknowledging the importance of taking early action in preventing global warming.
