Perhaps A Strongly Worded Letter Sprinkled With Some Harsh Language Kofi Annan has made it clear that the UN peacekeeping force is definitely, positively and absolutely not in Lebanon for the purpose of disarming Hezbollah. He went on to add that such a task was the province of Lebanon’s government (which, counter-productively, has Hezbollah members in its Parliament), and that the disarming…”cannot be done by force.” Is there a better example of the absolute moral, ethical and functional bankruptcy of the United Nations? It has become a joke to all clear thinking people. I ask the simple question of Mr. Annan: How does the UN propose that Hezbollah, which has expressed no desire or intention to cooperate, be disarmed if not by force? I’ll step into the shoes of Mr. Annan and answer my own question. Through “aggressive diplomacy” and “pointed negtiations”. This is the rubric of the UN and the liberal elite. It is the philosophy which comes from the mindset that resort to any sort of force or violence is unacceptable no matter what the situation. It is the mindset from which the half-baked conspiracy theories surrounding the identity of the “true” culprits of 9/11 rise, or of the make up and influence of the “Jewish lobby”, or of the nefarious doings of the Halliburton war-machine. The list goes on and on and on. A never ending series of irrational-izations designed to avoid placing blame where it ought lay so that there can never be justification for confronting evil with force. I have had too many conversations with folks whose only solution to this and similar impasses is to plead, “There must be another way…!” other than the use of force. Of course, when asked what should be done when there is no prospect of a rejoinder to those diplomatic efforts, there is only silence.
