Man, the news is depressing From parents hurting their own kids to lunatics wanting to obliterate Israel, it just keeps getting uglier and uglierWhere's Linda Ellerbee and Lloyd Dobbins when you need them? NBC needs to bring back NBC News Overnight, just so we have some news worth watching. I loved that show. I never missed an episode -- not one -- and when they aired the final show, I actually cried. Even if the overall news was crappy, for a glorious year and a half, Linda and Lloyd (about seven? eight? months into it, Linda and Bill) managed to make it bearable, and there was enough of everything else thrown in to leave you hopeful about your fellow man. Man, I miss that show. Times like these, we need it.Earlier tonite, I was in a blogging mood. I was looking for something heartwarming to share, or something infuriating to rant about. I didn't much care which, I just felt like running my virtual mouth. I put the solo dress aside, made sure everything was stable in DR, set my monitors, and started reading the news. Here's one for the "parent of the year" files: A 40-year old dad with three daughters, aged 5, 7 and 11, set himself up with a Yahoo video chatroom. Then he brought in his 11-year old daughter and asked viewers what they'd like to see him do to her live on camera at their apartment next door to police headquarters. One viewer asked the man to order his daughter to take off all her clothes and expose herself to a Webcam set up in the corner of his bedroom. The girl's father allowed her to keep her pants on when she said she was menstruating. The father forced her to have intercourse on camera at least three times and engaged in some abuse at the apartment complex pool during a game of “Marco Polo.” This went on from March till August 1st. He was abusing her off-camera as well; the girl was scared to say anything to her mom (who was usually at work when the incidents happened) about what her 330 pound father was doing to her. Police learned of the molestation last week when the 11-year-old complained to a friend’s mother about the abuse shortly after finding one of her younger sisters leaving their father’s bedroom with her pants around her knees, according to a police report of the incident.He was arrested about 10 hours later, and has been charged with two counts of aggravated child molestation and two counts of incest and one count each of rape, aggravated sexual battery and sexual exploitation of a minor. The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Safe Child Task Force has entered the case and more charges are possible. I'd like to sit on that jury. [ajc.com] Kate blogs at The Original Musings.
