Israel's "Scorched Earth" Strategy for Southern Lebanon The thinking here presumably is that Israel will not have to occupy this territory because there will not be much of anything left to occupy -- a desolate wasteland. Personally I don't see that this approach will solve Israel's problems -- military measures rarely do unless one can destroy or capture all of one's enemies -- and this punitive action can only create more enemies and fewer allies.
