On July 28, for reasons as yet unknown, 45-year old Edna May Sanders went into the kitchen, poured about two quarts of cooking oil into a saucepan and heated it to a boil. She took the pan, went into the bedroom where her 53-year old husband Sherman was sleeping and proceeded to pour the hot oil over his head, face, chest and arms. She then fled in the family car with the couple's two children.

Sherman suffered third degree burns over more than half of his body. Officers who arrived on the scene after he managed to signal a neighbor for help (he was too injured to dial 911) said that his skin was literally dripping off of him. He was able to talk with investigators briefly that night and then died a week later, on Friday, August 4th.

Police and the FBI are searching for Edna and the children. Edna has family in Texas and Louisiana, and the search is concentrated in those areas. It's believed family may be assisting her in eluding law enforcement.

All I have to add to this is that I don't care what the guy may have done to her, even if he was physically abusive, this was over the top. This wasn't a moment's rage, it was the result of cold-blooded premeditation. She had to stand there and heat that oil to 350° (or more) and then she had to take it in the bedroom and deliberately pour it over him. I know how I would punish her.
