Happy Hour at Guantanamo: "Cocktails" of Feces, Urine, Vomit and Sperm Well knock me over with a feather! I had no idea that these Islamic gentlemen -- most of whom just made a wrong turn at Kandahar and were unfairly imprisoned -- were capable of such gross and inappropriate conduct. In fact, one of the prisoners who was later released to Great Britain has expressed his deep skepticism of such reports: "This just doesn't make sense, especially since for Muslims this would be something that was disgusting, something that just wouldn't be done." On the other hand, most of us would also consider the wholesale slaughter of innocents in depraved acts of terrorism to be "disgusting" and "something that just wouldn't be done." But dad gum it if they don't do those things all the time anyway. But there's a larger point to be made here. Think back to when Dick Durbin, Democratic senator from Illinois, said that what American soldiers were doing to Gitmo prisoners was comparable to what "must have been done by Nazis, Soviets in their gulags, or some mad regime -- Pol Pot or others -- that had no concern for human beings." Now ask yourself a question: How many times do you think that Nazis or Soviets in their gulags or Pol Pot or the mad-regime-of-your-choice would tolerate being doused with cocktails of bodily fluids and wastes? Once? And what do you suppose would have happened to the fool who was crazy enough to have done it? Doesn't it seem fairly safe to say that it would have been horrible enough that nobody else would have repeated the act? Remember, we're talking about mad regimes that slaughtered tens of millions. The point is, if Guantanamo was even a tiny fraction as bad as its detractors have claimed, nobody would be throwing feces, urine, vomit and sperm on the guards unless they wanted to be tortured or they expected it to be their last day on earth. The fact that it apparently happens on a regular basis is just more proof that the Americans running Gitmo are decent enough chaps that the terrorist prisoners aren't afraid to pull such crap.
