Hamas spokesman says Palestinians infected with "bacteria of stupidity" "The anarchy, chaos, pointless murders, the plundering of lands, family feuds . . . what do all of these have to do with the occupation?" asked Ghazi Hamad, official spokesman for the Hamas government. That would be the former Israeli occupation he was referring to (key word being "former"), and a very good question. The obvious answer is, nothing. Hamad continued: "We have always been accustomed to pinning our failures on others and conspiratorial thinking is still widespread among us." He went on to talk about the "indescribable anarchy," the gun-toting youths, the senseless murders, the subsequent revenge killings and the total social chaos. And most Palestinians blame it all on Israel even though the occupation is over and they are free to make of Gaza whatever they wish. So far, they haven't appeared to wish for much. That "bacteria of stupidity" must be a mighty virulent strain because most of the Islamic world appears to be infected with it. Take the president of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadgenocide -- er, I mean, Ahmadinejad -- for instance. At a recent conference in Tehran he said that "the basic problem in the Islamic world is the existence of the Zionist regime." The rest of the world has been waiting for his explanation of how that could possibly be, but now we can just chalk it up to the bacteria of stupidity. (The problem is, will the civilized world's own bacteria of stupidity cause it to stand idly by and let Iran get nukes. But that's a whole other subject.) If someone like Hamad, who is actually a member of a terrorist group who wants Israel destroyed, can come out and speak truth to terror, then maybe there's some kind of hope that the Middle East can eventually get over its perverse obsession with the Zionist entity and make some kind of human progress. On the other hand, maybe some bacterially stupid Palestinian will simply put a bullet in Hamad's brain and that will be the end of it.
