Global water Shortages

In today's issue of Financial Times Fiona Harvey reports that water shortages are growing faster than expected. A third of World's population is suffering from a shortage of water. This could create water cisis in China and India, the two most populous nations on the planet.

There are many reasons for the shortage ranging from over-use of water to poor agricultural practices and climate change ( less rainfall, very hot summers etc). In addition to natural water shortages there are economic water shortages according to Fiona Harvey where there is lack of infrastructure to take the water from rivers and aquifers.

Enter the multinationsal such as Pepsi, coke and Nestle and Danone. These multinationals American, Swiss and French are draining the water out of water table and selling it in developieng countries to make money. This is called "blood money". Recent events in India against Pepsi and Coke goes to show there may be more to the story than political backlash and excess pesticides in the products. What about Nestle and Danone why spare these two. Is this because they are European companies. It does not matter where a company comes from, a bad deed is a bad deed
