Germany to Syria: Will you be good if we pay you?

The Middle East Quartet (the EU, the UN, the US and Russia) just isn’t selling records like it used to. Sales for peace in the Middle East seem to have hit a big slump these days. And now Germany (that quiet bass player who never sings) is proposing to buy the love of potential fans by, uh, buying the love of potential fans.

It seems that the EU is Syria’s biggest trading partner (40 percent of its trade goes to Europe) and Syria has never made a secret of its interest in duty-free access to the EU market. Germany seems prepared to offer Syria certain “incentives” in order to woo the country away from Iran (a hopeless Heavy Metal fan) and help find a diplomatic solution to the Middle East crises, see?

And of course it wants to sell some more records again, too. Hear the music now?
