Crossing the Border It seems a certain percentage of those who are crossing the Rio Grande these days, are bowing toward Mecca whenever they think no one is looking. The Texas Sheriff's Border Coalition has taken note of a rising trend. Arabic speaking individuals are putting down roots in Mexican border towns, and living with the locals long enough to learn Spanish, and obtain Mexican documentation. Once they believe they can blend in with others crossing the border, they pay smugglers to get them into the US. On the southern side of the river, Mexican officials are finding clues with greater frequency. The pseudo-immigrants have been known to leave behind tell-tale signs, like Iranian currency and Arabic military badges. One of these badges bore the image of an airplane in flight, and it was headed toward a tall tower. The translation from Arabic contained a few ominous clues too. There were words like martyr, and the way to eternal life. The smugglers are well aware that these are not your every day border crossers, and jack their fees up accordingly. The going rate to smuggle across non-latinos these days is pushing the $50,000 mark. Call me naive, but I can't see anyone forking over 50 G's for 'jobs Americans won't take'. These guys aren't coming into the States to pick oranges and grapes. Where do they come from? Here's a list relating to those that have been apprehended. Iraq - Iran - Indonesia - Bangladesh - Afghanistan Egypt - Saudi Arabia - Somalia - Yemen No doubt they just make their way here to find a better life. How many? At last count, 90,000 or so, and those are only the ones that got caught. Ever heard of 'catch and release'? It's a policy we have when dealing with illegals, and very similar to what lawmen did to drunks in the old west. Toss 'em in the cell overnight, let 'em sleep it off, and send them on their way in the morning. Of the 90,000 snared, half have walked away. 45,000 released on their own recognizance. Any bets on how many showed up for court? Having second thoughts about keeping our borders so open?
