Britain Thwarts Terror Plot to Blow up Airliners Mid-flight; Jihad Alive and Well

Those twisted, demented jihadists just don't quit, do they? British authorities have thwarted a massive terror plot to blow up at least several commercial aircraft mid-flight between Britain and the United States. Experts are saying the plot reeks of al-Qaida and is similar to the failed Bojinka plot in 1995 to blow up airliners over the Pacific. Same type of plot, different ocean.

You can't help but think back a week or so when the blogosphere brought to our attention a BBC comedy which featured a satirical "Terrorism Awards" show which included video of terrorists crashing an airliner into the Houses of Parliament. Ha ha ha! Stop it already, you're slayin' me! The real jihadists must have been in absolute stitches over that fine piece of British satire.

Speaking of the real jihadists, anyone care to guess how the plot suspects are being described? Try "mainly young, British-born Asian men." Could that possibly be deep code for . . . Islamic radicals, born and bred in jolly old England?

Despite the BBC's penchant for chic terrorism satire, England is fast becoming not so jolly. I don't want to say Britain has a huge problem on its hands with its significant population of surly, intolerant Islamic radicals who are totally at odds with their host country, as well as the West in general and pretty much all of modernity, but British Home Secretary John Reid said that Britain is living through its most threatening time since WWII. Now might be a good time to revisit the column I wrote last year immediately following the 7/7 attacks on the London transit system. It would seem Britain's homegrown Muslim hate machine has yet to be shut down.

But back to the specifics of the thwarted plot. The terrorists were going to carry on board planes liquid explosives disguised as drinks and electronic devices made to look like everyday items. They would then be combined sometime during the flights and detonated.

Scotland Yard described it as a plot "to cause mass murder on an unimaginable scale." Really? Mass murder on an unimaginable scale? Iran is desperately seeking nukes and Ahmadinejad's standard stump speech never fails to include the necessity of wiping Israel off the map. When it comes to radical Islam, no amount of mass murder is unimaginable.

And by the way, does anybody happen to remember 9/11? Nothing has been unimaginable since that day.
