Six Colombian Police Killed in Rebel Attack By VOA News 04 July 2006 Colombian officials say leftist rebels launched an attack on a police station that killed six officers and injured three others. They say rebels used rifles and homemade explosives in the attack Tuesday in the southwestern town of Palmira. Regional police commander General Luis Jacinto Mesa said members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, are active in the region. For years, FARC militants have battled the nation's armed forces and paramilitary groups in fighting that has killed thousands of people. Some information for this report was provided by AFP, AP and Reuters.
