Palestinian Militants Holding Kidnapped Soldier Issue Ultimatum By Robert Berger Jerusalem 03 July 2006 Palestinian militants holding a kidnapped Israeli soldier have given Israel an ultimatum. The military wing of the ruling Hamas movement and two other groups holding the kidnapped Israeli soldier have given Israel until Tuesday morning to begin releasing hundreds of Palestinian prisoners - or pay the consequences. They did not elaborate, but there is deep concern in Israel that the soldier could be tortured or killed. Hamas spokesman Ghazi Hamad told Israel Radio that he understands the kidnappers' demands and that it is a response to Israeli air strikes on Gaza over the past week. Israel rejected the demands for a prisoner release, saying it would not negotiate with terrorists. This story originally ran at VOANews.com This story was originally posted here.
