Italy, Belgium Take Leads at Fed Cups Women's Tennis Tourney By VOA Sports 15 July 2006 Italy has taken a 2-0 lead over Spain while Belgium leads the United States, 2-0, on the first day of the Fed Cup women's tennis semifinals. In Zaragoza, Spain, world number 14 Francesca Schiavone of Italy beat Lourdes Dominguez-Lino, 6-4, 7-5. Earlier, Flavia Pennetta of Italy scored a 6-3, 6-0 win over Anabel Medina-Garrigues. Meanwhile in Ostend, host Belgium took a 2-0 lead over the United States in their best-of-five match series. Kirsten Flipkens beat American Jill Craybas in three sets 5-7, 6-2, 6-4. Kim Clijsters also took three sets to win the second singles match over American Jamea Jackson, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1. The U.S. team is without star players Lindsay Davenport and the Williams sisters.
