Israeli Security Cabinet to Meet after Palestinian Rocket Attack By VOA News 05 July 2006 Israel's security cabinet will meet Wednesday to discuss stronger military actions against Palestinian militants. Israeli warplanes attacked the Palestinian Interior Ministry in Gaza City earlier Wednesday, the second such attack in less than a week. The building sustained extensive damage, and at least three people were wounded. The airstrike followed a Palestinian rocket attack on the Israeli southern coastal city of Ashkelon, the first time a Palestinian rocket had landed in the center of a major Israeli city. There were no casualties. The armed wing of Hamas claimed responsibility for the attack. Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert called the rocket attack "a major escalation in the campaign of terror waged by Hamas." He said there will be far-reaching consequences and that Hamas will be the first to feel them. In the occupied West Bank, Israeli troops killed a Palestinian man during an arrest raid in a refugee camp near Jericho. Palestinian security sources say the man was a member of the al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades. Some information for this report was provided by AP and Reuters.
