An explosion in the Afghan capital, Kabul, has killed an Afghan man and injured two other people.

Police say the blast took place Thursday morning in western Kabul. Police say they are investigating the cause of the explosion.

The blast occurred as senior NATO officials arrived in Kabul for talks with the Afghan government and the U.S.-led coalition. NATO forces are due to expand their peacekeeping operations in southern Afghanistan later this month.

The officials include NATO Secretary-General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer and the alliance's top commander, U.S. General James L. Jones.

Coalition officials say one of their soldiers died Tuesday during a combat operation in the southern province of Uruzgan. They say two other coalition soldiers were wounded in the fighting. Their nationalities were not released.

The coalition also says it recaptured a second town in Helmand province Wednesday that Taleban fighters overran in recent days. In a similar offensive Tuesday, combined forces drove the Taleban from Naway district, just north of Garmser.
