EU Welcomes Serbian Plan to Arrest Mladic By VOA News 17 July 2006 The European Union says it welcomes a Serbian plan to capture fugitive Bosnian Serb war crimes suspect Ratko Mladic, but says the plan needs to be developed further. Finland's Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja said Monday the plan is the basis for further cooperation with Serbia and should be immediately implemented. Finland is the current EU president. Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica presented the plan to EU officials Monday. No details were released. The United Nations War Crimes Tribunal has indicted Mladic on charges of genocide for the 1995 Srebrenica massacre of 8,000 Bosnian Muslim males. The former top Serb military commander in Bosnia-Herzegovina is believed to be hiding in Serbia. EU authorities suspended preliminary membership talks with Serbia in May after Belgrade failed to deliver Mladic.
