At Least 9 People Killed in Nairobi Chemical Factory Fire By VOA News 08 July 2006 At least nine people have been killed and several wounded in a fire at a chemical factory in Kenya's capital, Nairobi. Witnesses reported the fire was sparked by an explosion in the factory in the middle of the night. More explosions were heard as firefighters battled the blaze. Some 36 workers were in the factory when the fire began. Witnesses told local media some workers were not able to escape the flames because the factory's owners locked the doors when the fire broke out. Some information for this report was provided by AFP, AP and Reuters.
