Assad calls for ceasefire; only logical response is to pour it on like there's no tomorrow First, let's connect a few dots here, shall we? Assad is the iron-fisted (though possibly shaky) leader of a Ba'athist dictatorship which supports Hezbollah, which is a rabid terrorist outfit sworn to the destruction of Israel and that specifically targets the civilian population of its enemies while hiding behind its own civilians for cover. It doesn't get much more despicable than that. Hezbollah started an unprovoked war against Israel, presumably with Assad's, as well as Iran's, blessing. Now all of a sudden, Assad thinks the war needs to end. A reasonable question would be, why? Could it possibly be because he wants Hezbollah, along with all its remaining missiles, to survive to fight another day rather than be destroyed by Israel? Gee, I wonder . . . A ceasefire now would certainly ensure such an outcome, and besides Assad, it's being called for by the usual "useful idiots" (EU, American peaceniks, etc.). But when a tinhorn, terror-supporting dictator like Assad calls for a ceasefire, exactly the opposite should happen and civilized people everywhere should be cheering Israel on in its effort to destroy Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. In fact, if I had my druthers, Israel would continue on and bomb Damascus, overturn Assad, occupy Syria and convert its people to Judaism. Just kidding about that last part -- although, on the other hand, what country wouldn't be better off in almost every conceivable way if its dominant religion was Judaism rather than Islam? Just imagine if every Islamic country was like Israel (modern, creative, open, productive, prosperous) rather than what they're actually like (backward, ignorant, fanatical, tribal, unproductive, unstable). But silly me, engaging in such a radical reverie. Back to reality. Assad wants a ceasefire? Then by all means, give Hezbollah war, war and more war until, once and for all, there's a clear victor. And I think we know who that would be. Greg Strange provides conservative commentary with plenty of acerbic wit on the people, politics, events and absurdities of our time.
