30 Taleban Killed in Afghanistan By VOA News 16 July 2006 Afghan officials said Sunday that Afghan and coalition forces have killed more than 30 Taleban fighters in clashes in southern Afghanistan. The announcement comes one day after U.S.-led coalition forces killed more than 40 Taleban fighters in various gunbattles across the country's south. Coalition officials said Saturday American, British and Canadian forces launched a pre-dawn attack on the insurgent stronghold of Sangin in Helmand province, killing 10 Taleban fighters. U.S.-led forces also killed 31 suspected Taleban insurgents in neighboring Uruzgan province. Meanwhile, officials said two foreign men killed in Uruzgan province Friday were suspected suicide bombers disguised as women. The two were clad in the all-covering burqas worn by many women in Afghanistan. The U.S.-led coalition is conducting a major offensive against Taleban insurgents in eastern and southern Afghanistan.
