World Cup Game Sparks Violence in Bosnian Town By VOA Sports 14 June 2006 One man was seriously wounded and several others injured in clashes between Bosnian Croats and Muslims in Mostar after Croatia's loss in a World Cup football match Tuesday night. Police said the fighting broke out between Croats disappointed by their team's loss to Brazil and Muslims who had been cheering for Croatia's opponents. Police were sent in to try to stop the clashes, and 26 people were detained. Six police officers were injured and one man suffered serious gunshot wounds. Although the Bosnian war of the early 1990s is over, Mostar has remained divided between its Muslim and Croat communities who fought each other during the conflict.
