US Cyclist Leipheimer Wins Dauphine Libere Race By VOA Sports 11 June 2006 American cyclist Levi Leipheimer has won the Dauphine Libere race in France, following the 131-kilometer final stage from St-Jean-de-Maurienne to Grenoble. Thor Hushovd of Norway won Sunday's seventh and final stage in a sprint finish with a time of 3:08:17. French rider Samuel Dumoulin was second, while Philippe Gilbert of Belgium finished third, with both men credited with the same time. The 32-year-old Leipheimer won the title without ever winning a stage victory - a testament to his consistency in the time trials and mountain stages. He finished second in the race last year and claimed sixth place in the Tour de France. Christophe Moreau of France was second in the overall standings, 1:48 behind Leipheimer, while Austrian Bernhard Kohl was third, 2:51 back.
