Infosys Murthy to retire - Is there a lesson for Indian Politics? Infosys interestingly enough was formed around the same time as the BJP was formed, celebrating silver jubilees a year apart. Infosys was not born out of any business house or traditional business family. Not losing faith or hope Infosys persevered through the 80s like the BJP Infosys' meteoric rise to the forefront on the global landscape parallels the rise of the BJP on the political front. With the start of a new millennium a new global reality confronted Infosys. A Globalized World, open markets and competitition from global majors. In response to the challenges thrown by the new millennium Infosys did not hunker down with calls for protectionist laws to prevent global majors from competing with it from India. Infosys founders Murthy and Nilekani did not sell-out and merge with a bigger player wary of competing with the big boys. Nor did Infosys put all its faith in its mascot Mr. Murthy to take it through this challenging phase. In fact Infosys actually demonstrated its confidence that there is no dearth of talent amongst its ranks and put in place a leadership system where the young are groomed to succeed as the elders move on. Today Infosys is the leader in showing the world how to compete and win in a Flat World. In this day and age of Gerontocrat Politicians symbolized by octogenerian chief ministers of Tamil Nadu and Kerala - Karunanidhi and Achutanandan the Indian Political scene is beginning to resemble a Geriatric Ward. The BJP especially despite tomtomming its second generation leadership at every opportunity never really demonstrated its confidence in the young succeeding and letting the elders move on. While Mr. Advani will be remembered in history for being a great talent spotter he will also be criticized for not having done enough to ensure a graceful transition by the talent groomed by him. Mr. Advani who not very much unlike Mr. Murthy oversaw the meteoric rise of the BJP through the last decade could very well do with a dose of Lessons on how to compete and win in a Flat World from Mr. Murthy. The advocate of Hindutva to the masses should perhaps look to reinvogate the Indian Right with new ideas and a new vision for an emerging Flat World, Infosys style. Flat World Hindutva could very well become the new mantra for the next general elections as an alternative to the moribund dynastic politics of the Congress by offering a much more vibrant and diverse alternative with a million Choices all rising from the grassroots in this nation of a billion. -- OffStumped For All Things Right of Center, Bringing a Right of Centre Reality Check to Indian Politics, News Media Reporting and Opinion through Blogs and Podcasts. -- Blogger News Network is advertiser-supported, and your visits to our advertisers help BNN to meet its expenses.
