Federer Advances to French Open Finals By VOA Sports 09 June 2006 Defending champion Rafael Nadal of Spain and world No. 1 Roger Federer of Switzerland have advanced to the men's finals at the French Open tennis tournament in Paris. Nadal scored a straight-sets win over Ivan Ljubicic of Croatia 6-4, 6-2, 7-6. Federer advanced when his opponent, Argentina's David Nalbandian, withdrew with a stomach muscle injury in the third set (3-6, 6-4, 5-2). Nadal has won 59 straight matches on clay and has a 5-1 all-time record against Federer, including eliminating the Swiss player from last year's French Open semifinals. The women's finals are Saturday with two-time champion Justine Henin-Hardenne of Belgium facing former U.S. Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia.
