Baseball: Johnson Leads Yankees to Win Over Braves By VOA Sports 27 June 2006 In Major League Baseball, Randy Johnson delivered seven shutout innings and Jason Giambi scored a pair of homers to lift the New York Yankees to a 5-2 win over the Atlanta Braves on Monday. Back in action after serving a five-game suspension for throwing at Cleveland's Eduardo Perez, Johnson retired eight straight hitters before en error by Alex Rodriguez allowed a runner to reach base. The Yankees scored their runs in the first two innings. Giambi homered in his first two appearances - first drilling a two-run shot and, then, a three-run blast in the second. In Boston, slugger David Ortiz's 12th inning game-winning RBI single lifted the Red Sox to an 8-7 decision over the Philadelphia Phillies. It was the second straight game that Ortiz delivered the deciding blow in extra innings. On Saturday, he hit a game-ending home run in the 10th inning to defeat Philadelphia 5-3. In St. Louis, Travis Hafner hit a pair of home runs and Grady Sizemore and Todd Hiollandsworth also homered as the Cleveland Indians dumped the Cardinals 10 - 3.
