Official sources in Islamabad have stated that Ifthikar Mallik,a Joint Secretary at the Finance Ministry of Pakistan was assaulted by Khwaja Shiraz Mehmood,the Parliamentary Secretary from the same department, at the latter's office. The scuffle took place after Mallik arrived 10 minutes late for a meeting with Mehmood, apparently because the former was busy with some other work. According to Malik, Mehmood proceeded to use abusive language against the former and then physically assault him. Some other visitors at the Parliamentary Secretary's office were also involved in the fisticuff. Following this, senior officials from the Finance Ministry have gone on strike, demanding an apology from Mehmood, who was later reprimanded by officials on behalf of Pakistani Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz.
