Official World Cup lion now officially bankrupt

“Goleo”, that indecently-dressed-fur-bag-sorry-excuse of a lion who inexplicably landed the dream job of official World Cup mascot, has filed for bankruptcy. Or the company that makes him has, I mean. It’s about time, too.

He never “caught on”, as they say. And that’s why the company that makes him has to throw in the towel. And that just a few weeks before the opening match, too. Personally, I think it has to do with German Neid (envy) again. There are lots of unemployed stuffed animals out there who would have been willing to do the job for less. And less than nothing ain’t much these days, folks.

Of course, a lot of it probably also has to do with the fact that Goleo is/was ugly as sin and a rotten conversationalist and probably smelled bad, too. One German journalist summed it by saying he looked like Guido Westerwelle with bird flu. And no, it doesn’t matter that you don’t necessarily know who Guido Westerwelle is, just keep whatever image you have in your mind right now anyway and you'll see where I’m coming from.

The name Goleo stems from the old Latin term “goal” for goal and the old modern American English phrase “eo” for yo, what’s up? And that’s probably where all the trouble began. But then they forgot to sew a pair of pants on him for crying out loud. I mean, jeez, kids watch these events, too.

No, we all saw this one coming. Now they just have to get rid of that stupid talking soccer ball. And then let the games begin.
