New White House Spokesman has Rough Inaugural Session with Reporters By VOA News 13 May 2006 President Bush's new White House spokesman, Tony Snow, had a rough, but collegial first day fielding questions from reporters. The trouble began when he delayed the starting time of the morning briefing, and then started before the new time he set. Snow also switched the briefing to his office, saying it would be more relaxed, but when all the reporters could not get in, he switched it back to the usual White House briefing room. He apologized for both mistakes, conceding the briefing had turned into a mess. But he asked for patience, saying he was " the new kid on the block". He also cited his newness while declining to respond to several questions, saying he didn't want to comment on topics he had not yet mastered. The last question was about what he wanted to do differently with the press office. "Well," joked Snow, "apparently the morning briefing."
