By VOA Sports
25 May 2006

Boris Diaw scored the winning basket with half-a-second left in regulation to help the Phoenix Suns beat the Dallas Mavericks 121-118 in National Basketball Association playoff action Wednesday night.

Diaw's shot capped a wild fourth quarter comeback for the Suns, who were down 114-105 with just under four minutes left. Teammate Steve Nash, the NBA's reigning most valuable player, scored Phoenix's next 10 points to get his team back in the game.

The Mavericks had a 118-117 lead before Diaw hit his crucial basket. Tim Thomas scored a pair of free throws to seal the victory for the Suns, who took a 1-0 in the best of seven Western Conference finals.

Diaw finished with a career-high 34 points, while Nash scored 27 points and had 16 assists.

Dirk Nowitzki scored 25 points and grabbed 19 rebounds to lead Dallas.

Game two of the series will be held in Dallas on Friday.
