Israel Strikes Palestinian Militant Targets in Lebanon By VOA News 28 May 2006 Israel warplanes have attacked two Palestinian militant bases in Lebanon, hours after militants there fired rockets into Israel and wounded an Israeli soldier. Witnesses say the Israeli strikes near Beirut and in the Bekaa Valley killed one militant and wounded five others. The Israeli army says the two compounds targeted were run by the Syrian-backed Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command. Israeli officials say they also plan to file a complaint at the United Nations Security Council because Lebanon has not yet disarmed militias operating in the country. No militant group has claimed responsibility for the rocket attack on Israel. The Iranian-backed Hezbollah and other Palestinian militant groups operating in Lebanon have carried out such attacks in the past.
