Huge Fire Breaks Out at Istanbul Airport By VOA News 24 May 2006
Firefighters in Turkey are battling a huge fire in the cargo section of Istanbul's international airport. Officials said three people have been injured in the blaze. It is unknown if anyone is trapped inside the burning cargo building. There are conflicting reports about what started the fire, but officials do not suspect it is terrorism-related. Witnesses said they heard explosions as the flames burned through goods stored in the cargo building. Plumes of thick, black smoke have caused some flight delays, but airport officials say they are slowly bringing the blaze under control. Some information for this report was provided by AFP, AP and Reuters. This story originally ran at VOANews.com This story was originally posted here.
