The great May Day immigrant boycott and shoot-yourself-in-the-foot rally Well, gee, that's not too much to ask, is it? To pretend that 11 million people (rough estimate, probably conservative) who flagrantly broke the country's immigration laws actually did nothing wrong? Or at least not so wrong that we couldn't all just throw our hands up in the air and say, "Well, o-o-kay, we'll let it pass just this one more time, but this is unequivocably and indisputably the absolute very very last time we will ever, without exception, and I mean never, allow this to happen again as long as the sun rises in the east and Mexico is a hopeless basket case." Anything else we can do for you, Jorge? How about we send out engraved invitations to all the relatives of the 11 million to come on up and grab some of those limitless jobs that us gringos wouldn't be caught dead doing? In fact, why should anybody stay in the failed state of Mexico and try to fix what's wrong with it? On the other hand -- and May Day organizers might want to try and wrap their heads around this -- surveys are telling us that the vast majority of Americans are fed up with the illegal invasion, want the borders closed and aren't in a touchy-feely, amnesty-giving kind of mood. That being the case, and in terms of public relations, it's a bit perplexing as to how it will help the cause of illegals when Rodriguez (good ol' Jorge again) says things like, "We're going to close down Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Tucson, Phoenix, Fresno." Fact is, Americans are about tired of massive pro-illegal alien marches whose object is to paralyze traffic and commerce. One of the most basic principles of public relations is do not irritate the living daylights out of those from whom you are seeking amnesty. Here's an idea. If you're looking to make a point about how much you matter, why don't you go shut down Mexico City instead? There's the government whose face you need to be in, not this one. There's the country that needs fixing, not this one. Greg Strange provides conservative commentary with plenty of acerbic wit on the people, politics, events and absurdities of our time. Good to have your perspective.
I am a former OCS grad', medic and ordnance officer...Vietnam took my father and I served during its long tenure as well...
I grieve for the soldiers and their families. I hope we soon "get it" and get out.
