Colombian Rebels Kill 3 Police Officers By VOA News 25 May 2006 Colombian authorities say leftist rebels have killed three police officers in the southern part of the country and injured four others. Officials say the attack occurred Wednesday when members of the country's largest rebel group, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, ambushed a police patrol in the southern Nariño state. The rebel attack comes as Colombia prepares for presidential elections on May 28. President Alvaro Uribe is expected to win a second four-year term. Recent surveys show him with at least 55 percent of public support. Mr. Uribe has gained popularity with his hard-line stance against the FARC.
