13 Iraqis Die in Shooting, Bombing Attacks in Baghdad By VOA News 18 May 2006 Iraqi police say at least 13 people, including several policemen, were killed in two separate attacks in Baghdad Thursday. They say insurgents detonated a roadside bomb near a police patrol in northern Baghdad, and in a southwestern part of the city, gunmen fired on a bus carrying workers to their jobs. Also today, the U.S. military said an American sailor was killed during combat operations Wednesday in Anbar province, west of Baghdad. It also says Iraqi forces killed three insurgents and wounded 10 during two incidents in the northern city of Mosul. On the political front, Iraq's Prime Minister-designate Nouri al-Maliki is expected to seek parliamentary approval for his Cabinet on Saturday. The critical posts of interior and defense minister are yet to be finalized. But officials say the Cabinet may be presented with or without a decision on those two positions. The prime minister's 30-day deadline for forming a government expires on Monday. The United States says a unified Iraqi government is key to ending sectarian violence and insurgent attacks.
