No Apology Would EVER Be Enough And No Punishment, EitherWhen Natalie Rodriguez lost her job in 2002 and her family kicked her out of her home, her best friend invited Natalie and her four year old son to move in with her. Giselle (Colon) Miranda and Natalie had been friends since childhood, and friends take care of each other in times of need.As the Miranda family soon learned, Natalie drank. She was beligerent and would not pay rent. Just one month after she moved in, the Miranda family told her to move out. They gave her a deadline, rather than just toss her onto the street. On the last day of the deadline, Natalie was angry and feeling vengeful. So, she silently lifted her best friend's son, 9-month old Xavier Miranda, out of his crib in the middle of the night, picked up a knife from the kitchen and left the three bedroom apartment. She placed Xavier face down in a snowbank in a neighbor's driveway, and slashed his throat. She then hid his tiny body under a trash can in the driveway. In court, Natalie blamed her "dysfunctional ways" for the murder, and stated "I was the cause of the death of a precious boy who I loved dearly. I want to apologize to the family. I'm very sorry." Because it wasn't enough -- not nearly enough -- Xavier's mom had this to say to her former best friend: "It really hurts to know my only friend did this to me. It destroyed my family. It destroyed everybody. ... My son was innocent. If she had any type of grudge, she could have taken it out on me or my husband, not my son. I have no words for her." Following a plea bargain, Natalie entered a guilty plea to second degree murder and kidnapping on Tuesday and was sentenced to life in prison. Counting time served thus far, it will be at least 26 more years before she is eligible for parole consideration. [FOX, WRAL] Kate blogs at The Original Musings.
