Welcome to the Duke Police "policenews" daily e-mail list, a log of significant reported incidents and case updates. The following incidents are being investigated by the Duke University Police Department:
West Campus:
04-13-06 at 1:21 pm at Edens 2A: A student reported that she had received numerous harassing e-mails from another student with whom she was acquainted.
04-15-06 at 7:56 pm at Wilson Rec: A student reported that he left his cell phone unsecured and unattended while he played basketball for 35 minutes. When he returned, he found his black Motorola Razr phone, valued at $200.00, missing.
04-15-06 at 8:10 pm at Wilson Rec: A student reported that he left his cell phone unsecured and unattended while he monitored a basketball game. When he returned, he found his black Sanyo phone, valued at $180.00, missing.
04-15-06 at 10:47 pm at Bostic Library: An employee reported that between 3:30 and 10:30 pm someone stole an interior electronic component from a copier machine. The component is valued at $300.00; its loss renders the copier inoperable.
04-17-06 at 10:48 am at the Bryan Center: A student reported that someone stole a box of personalized 1 liter water bottles (value $300.00) and cash from an unsecured office. The items were last seen at 3:55 pm the previous day.
04-17-06 at 11:50 am at the Faculty Club parking lot: A student reported that someone entered her car by the open sunroof between 11:10 am and 11:35 pm. She said her iPod (value $300.00) and cash were taken.
04-18-06 at 1:49 pm at the Fuqua School: A student reported that he left his laptop unsecured and unattended in a Team Room from 04-03-06 until 04-10-06 when he noticed it missing. The Dell Inspiron laptop was valued at $100.00.
Medical Center Area:
04-16-06 at 11:44 pm at the LaSalle Street parking lot: A student reported that her vehicle, which had a previously broken and unrepaired window, was entered between 6 pm and 10:44 pm. She said that the face plate to her stereo (valued at $300.00) was taken and the dash board around her radio and gear shift were damaged.
04-17-06 at 3:54 pm at an unknown Duke Clinic: A man reported that he received a bill for services that he did not receive. Someone used his name, date of birth and Social Security number to obtain medical services, but listed the patient as a female. The man's given name is gender ambiguous. He does not know where his personal information was obtained, nor who may have done it.
04-18-06 at 11:25 am at Duke Clinic: A contract employee was arrested on an outstanding warrant for violation of a Domestic Violence Protection Order. The criminal violation did not occur at Duke.
04-18-06 at 1:13 pm at LaSalle Street parking lot: An employee reported that someone had entered his car between 04-17-06 at 8:00 am and 04-17-06 at 5:00 pm by jamming down the rear window. A JVC CD player / radio was stolen valued at $125.00.
04-18-06 at 2:22 pm on the 8th floor of Duke Hospital: A man was arrested on an outstanding warrant for Assault with a Deadly Weapon. The criminal violation did not occur at Duke.
04-18-06 at 7:04 pm at Towerview and Circuit Drive: A man was arrested by Duke Police Officers when he was found inside a car he had broken into. The man was charged with Break or Enter a Motor Vehicle, Larceny, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He received a $5000.00 secured bond.
East Campus Area:
04-15-06 at 7:50 am at 117 South Buchanan: An employee reported that four vehicles owned by Duke Facilities were broken into over night. Each vehicle had a window broken out. It is not known at this time what, if anything, was taken from the vehicles.
Anyone with information about cases is asked to call Duke Police at 684-2444, or Durham CrimeStoppers at 683-1200. CrimeStoppers pays cash rewards from information that leads to an arrest in a felony case.
