Cynthia McKinney's weasel words -- er, I mean, apology What happened was it was getting about as much traction as a pig trying to climb up a greased pole, so she dropped it. And speaking of poles, neither the Democratic leadership nor even the Congressional Black Caucus has been willing to touch McKinney's claims with a ten-footer. It's pretty bad when a black, supposedly racially-profiled Congresswoman can't get the Congressional Black Caucus to come to her defense. They're a regular who's who of jumping on even the slightest whiff of racial unfairness and tearing into it like a dog on a hambone. And there's not a thing in the world wrong with that when it comes to real racism. But even the hyper-racially sensitive CBC takes everything McKinney charges with a boulder of salt. No one's going to claim that racial profiling of black people never occurs. It's just that no one can believe it occurs against black members of Congress at a House of Representatives office building security checkpoint. What would be the point? No one thinks they're terrorists. And if it did occur, wouldn't someone besides the ludicrous Ms. McKinney be complaining about it? Anyway, here's her official apology: "Thank you, Mr. Speaker. I come before this body to personally express again my sincere regret about the encounter with the capitol hill police. I appreciate my colleagues who are standing with me, who love this institution, and who love this country. There should not have been any physical contact in this incident. I have always supported law enforcement and will be voting for H.R. 756, expressing my gratitude and appreciation to the professionalism and dedication of the men and women of the U.S. Capitol police. I am sorry that this misunderstanding happened at all and I regret its escalation and I apologize." Sounds like weasel words from someone who might be in a heap of trouble for striking a duly authorized Capitol Police officer. Her cry-wolf charges of racial profiling can wait. Right now she needs to find a way to save her (Congressional) seat. Thanks for having the text to her little speech Greg. Your site was the only place I could find it.
