Australian Cartoonist Hits Back The above is a response to similar cartoons about Australia's political leaders emanating from Muslim Indonesia (See my post of Thursday). What's good for the goose should surely be good for the gander. The cartoon refers to the savage oppression ("rape") of the Western New Guinea natives by Indonesia. Some of the Melanesian natives concerned have recently found refuge in Australia -- to Indonesia's disgruntlement. Background to the cartoon here Update: I originally hotlinked the above cartoon to this site but I got some feedback saying that the cartoon was too "explicit" for this site -- which is why it is now "click to view". I would have thought that you would also want to ban all public appearances of dogs to object consistently but maybe I am missing something. I note also that the cartoon DID originally appear in a mainstream newspaper. The newspaper was Australian, however, so standards may differ somewhat cross-nationally. Note also that Muslim Indonesia published similar cartoons. Are Americans more prudish than third-world Muslims? I sort of hope not. I am sure the owner of this blog would be interested in hearing any views from readers on the matter. Not particularly.
This site is family-friendly. We will not be publishing adult language, and we will not be depicting adult themed activities; certainly, depictions of sexual activity are right out.
There are, of course, news stories which deal with these themes, and those stories will be handled in a respectful and mature fashion. However, there is no need to show a cartoon of people having sex to discuss a cartoon about people having sex; the cartoon can be linked for readers who may wish to see the material directly, but it isn't going to appear here.
This has nothing to do with sensitivity, as the post author apparently believes; it has rather to do with the type of site I am running and the types of material which I am not comfortable with having appear on the Internet with my name associated.
