But I’ve already got a dog! The German birth rate is now lower then it was in 1946. You know, like right after World War II when they actually had a reason not to have kids. One of the lowest birth rates in Europe, no, the lowest, it dropped another 4.5% from the previous year’s figure. 676,000 natives were born last year. The French have twice as many kids, the English even more. Wie die Karnickel (like rabbits)! Apparently this all has to do with these ever so uncertain times and the fact that their ever so cushy social hammock isn’t quite as cushy as it used to be and of course there’s always that relatively low amount of savings the natives all have here that no other nation in the industrialized word (except Japan) will ever even come close to having (around 10% of their income). So you see, it all has Hand und Fuß (it all adds up). I mean, there couldn’t be another reason for not having children, right? Oops. Was that too personal? Come visit me at Observing Hermann...
